GLOSSARY
Supercomputer
What is a supercomputer?
A supercomputer is a computer that is able to perform extremely complex operations – up to several thousand trillion operations per second.
In comparison, a very fast home PC will manage only up to 100 billion operations.
How does a supercomputer work?
A supercomputer often uses parallel computing, which means that many processors work to solve a problem at the same time. Thus, huge calculations can be performed in a short time, which is especially useful in scientific and engineering calculations involving large data sets and complex models.
